Evaluation and the new media climate

The Mediatrack team have just got back from the first AMEC forum on "How media evaluation fits into the new media climate". The forum proved to be a huge success with over 70 people in attendance and very enlightening in large part due to the quality of the speakers which included Neville Hobson, one of the leading European adopters and influencers in social media communication for business, James Warren of Weber Shandwick who is a leading blogging expert, Jon Chandler from Coca Cola and Paul Miller a senior consulatant at Romeike.

Issues such as how to evaluate and measure consumer generated media, the death of traditional media, the growth of tagging and the semantic web created a lively debate.

"... blogs are word of mouth with a megaphone"
Neville Hobson

Of particular note is Neville Hobson who's ideas on social media, RSS, web 2.0 and podcasting proved very insightful. He hopes to provide a podcast of his keynote speech at some point on his blog for those of you who are interested. As Mediatrack develops its own online presence and adopts exciting new technologies like RSS and blogging we hope to contribute even more to this arena and will be looking to provide innovative solutions to online measurement of the blogosphere.

We would like to thank everyone who made the event such a success and we look forward to attending the next one in October.

Back on Terra Firma

Once again The Communication Directors' Forum proved to be one of the most stimulating, challenging, and exhausting opportunities that we have during the year to meet current clients and future clients. Over the three days on board we met with over 60 different companies, with hugely diverse media evaluation needs - what becomes clearer and clearer is that we have constantly to challenge the idea that there is a single approach to evaluation that truly delivers a universal solution. Our time back on dry land will be developing our thoughts on how we can use our knowledge to best assist these requirements.

Of course three days circling the Channel Islands will send some of the delegates giddy especially combined with a Force 8 gale and excellent hospitality. We only hope that those that were not as careful as Mediatrack will have recovered by now.

Finally, a big thanks to those delegates that made our time on board so worthwhile - we look forward to taking our discussions forward.
